ICT industry is said to be one of the key sectors in Hungary. This chapter compares the trends of the industry over the decade with other countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The status of the ICT industry in CEE countries is introduced as the first step; this is followed by the description of the effect of ICT on structural upgrading in the region. Detailed OECD dataset is used to analyse employment growth, changes in value added and accumulated capital, etc. An overview of the Hungarian ICT policy is also given in the chapter. The findings suggest that Hungarian ICT industry has possibly lost its lead in the region over the 2000s; the Czech ICT sector seemed to develop faster in many indicators, which is in some cases also true for Polish ICT. This is mainly the consequence of the dependence of the Hungarian ICT sector on foreign investments.
